G-INews, NEW DELHI | JANUARY 16, 2026 — As the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 approaches (scheduled from January 21 to January 30), the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially implemented a multi-level biometric verification process. This year marks a significant shift in exam-day security, with the introduction of AI-enabled facial recognition and mandatory live photography to eliminate impersonation and fraud.
The Official Exam-Day ProcedureCandidates appearing for JEE Main 2026 must undergo a rigorous four-step verification process before they are allowed to enter the examination hall.
Initial Document Verification:
Candidates must present a printed copy of their JEE Main 2026 Admit Card along with a valid, original photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Passport). Photocopies or digital IDs on mobile phones will not be accepted.
Fingerprint Scanning: At the biometric kiosk, a digital scan of the thumb or index finger is taken. This data is matched in real-time with the records submitted during the registration process.
Facial Recognition (New for 2026): In a first for the JEE, NTA is using AI-based facial recognition. A live photograph is captured at the center and compared with the “live photo” uploaded during the application stage and the Aadhaar database.
Frisking and Security: Following the biometric check, candidates undergo a thorough frisking using handheld metal detectors to ensure no prohibited electronic items are carried into the hall.Mandatory Guidelines for CandidatesTo ensure a smooth authentication process and avoid technical mismatches, the NTA has issued a set of strict “Do’s and Don’ts”:
No Mehndi or Ink: Candidates are strictly advised not to apply mehndi, ink, or any chemicals on their fingers, as this can lead to fingerprint mismatch and denial of entry.
Appearance Consistency: Avoid heavy makeup or facial accessories that might obstruct the facial recognition software.
Reporting Time:
Due to the additional layers of biometric security, candidates are advised to reach the center at least 2 hours before the commencement of the exam.
Dress Code: Wear light, half-sleeve clothes without large buttons or zippers. Only open sandals or slippers are permitted; closed shoes are strictly prohibited. Why the Change? The move follows recommendations from a high-level committee led by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan. By integrating Aadhaar-linked facial authentication, the NTA aims to create a “tamper-proof” testing environment. “This system ensures that only the registered candidate sits for the exam, protecting the hard work of millions of students,” stated an NTA official.Quick Checklist for Exam Day
