IIT Kanpur to Shield National Informatics Centre (NIC) from Cyber Attacks; Senior Officials Trained in Cybersecurity

G-INews, Kanpur: In a major step toward bolstering India’s digital sovereignty, IIT Kanpur has taken the lead in securing the National Informatics Centre (NIC)—the backbone of the Indian government’s IT infrastructure—against escalating cyber threats.

Under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), scientists at IIT Kanpur have conducted a specialized training program for Tier-4 officials of the NIC from across the country.

Strengthening Incident Response

The intensive training focused on Cybersecurity and Incident Response, equipping officials with the skills to immediately identify, intercept, and neutralize cyber-attacks. The primary objective is to safeguard the massive volumes of sensitive government data hosted by the NIC and prevent website crashes or data breaches.

C3iHub: The Nerve Center of Cyber Innovation

The training was hosted at IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub (Cybersecurity Hub), a premier center dedicated to research and innovation in cyber defense.

  • Advanced Tools: Teams of scientists and various startups at C3iHub are developing cutting-edge tools, devices, and systems to detect vulnerabilities.
  • Customized Curriculum: The program was specifically tailored to meet the unique operational requirements of the NIC.
  • Hands-on Training: Beyond basic concepts, officials were trained on sophisticated defensive technologies to ensure a swift response during real-time hacking attempts.

National Impact

By training responsible NIC officials, IIT Kanpur is creating a robust shield for the nation’s digital assets. At the conclusion of the program, participants were honored with certificates of excellence. This initiative ensures that the critical infrastructure of the Government of India remains resilient against global cyber warfare.
